If you buy only one Black Metal album this year you could not go wrong picking up the dark masterwork that is Ashen Banners from Withershin. Epic Swedish Black Metal would be an apt description but it would not go nearly far enough to describe the filthy, raging musical diatribe that has been conjured by these four masterful madmen.
Tracks like “The Art of Ascension”, “Reap the Impurities” and “Entering the Void” recall the glory days of bands like Necrodeath and Schizo with their technical wizardry and over-the-top brutality. This is frightening, dark, chaotic Black Metal played with clinical precision and designed for maximum damage.
